Analysis of three award-winning blogs

①Simple Bites by Aimée Wimbush-Bourque

About the Blog

Simple Bites is a family-oriented- community that values the significance of regularly gathering the entire family around the table. The blog's goal is to make it easier for people to prepare whole, wholesome foods and encourage people to eat locally and seasonally. The blog provides many thorough recipes, easy-to-follow preserving lessons, and straightforward advice for cooking with children.

Recipes

In Simple Bites, there are a variety of recipes, from appetizers and main dishes to drinks. One of my favorite recipes is the Garlic Bread Wreath with Baked Brie.
This recipe is kid-friendly and may be prepared as an appetizer or a side dish for spaghetti.
In Aimee's blog, she devoted this recipe to the Ukrainians undergoing the current war. She wrote, "Today's recipe is another way of honoring my heritage as we head into the holidays. This Garlic Bread Wreath with Baked Brie will be at my Thanksgiving table this weekend."

My Impression

Simple Bites was incredibly organized and straightforward, and the "New? Start here" area benefited beginners. The blog's photographs and design were excellent, and I plan to refer to the recipes in the future.

②The Domestic Man by Russ Crandall

About the Blog

The blog focuses on classic, traditional, and international foods from a historical, linguistic, and cultural perspective and offers gluten-free and Paleo-friendly recipes. Russ's initial thesis for The Domestic Man was that people had lost touch with their ancestral roots due to becoming domesticated. We no longer carry along culinary customs from one generation to the next in many societies. This blog is intended to react to society's growing disregard for one of the fundamental qualities that make us human.

Recipes

The Domestic Man has many red meat recipes and side dishes. Of those recipes, my favorite one was the Fårikål, a Norweigan lamb and cabbage stew.

Fårikål originates from Western Norway (Vestlandet) and has become a beloved autumn staple, earning Norway's national dish status in 1972.

My Impression

Compared to Simple Bites, I felt that there was not much effort into describing the taste of one dish. Although the recipes Russ introduces all look delicious, it doesn't make me want to make them. I also felt lost with the layout of the blog. Rather than showing the recipes in a timeline, I think it would be much easier to see if he made a list of his recipes.

③Humming Bird by Michelle

About the Blog

Michelle first started the blog as a stress relief from her daily life. As she started posting, she learned many lessons, such as techniques to always have consistent and delicious results. In other words, Michelle started the blog to share her recipes and escape from reality.

Recipes

The blog consists mainly of pastry recipes. My favorite one was the Small Batch Strawberry Biscuit Sheet Cake. I wasn't familiar with this kind of pastry, so I was very interested in it.
This sheet cake is made with buttery and flaky biscuits topped with fresh strawberries and cream. Since this dish is completed with the toppings, it is very easy to customize to your own liking.

My Impression

I liked the layout of the blog and how it focuses on baking. I liked how Michelle is convincing people why they should make the recipe because it is very effective. The blog included a very helpful recipe index and a search tool to search for a recipe according to what you want.
